                                               Different Ways of Celebrating Mass

Every Mass is the celebration of the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. We listen to

the Word of God, bread and wine are brought to the altar and the Eucharist is offered  in which

the bread and wine are changed into the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ, the sacrifice of Calvary

is made present  and we are invited to share in the sacred banquet in which Christ is received.

Although many elements of the rite are common to all Masses, there are some variations in the

Celebration. Our Masses are celebrated as follows:

Liturgy at the
National Shrine

6.30pm Saturday Our Lady Queen of Peace Newcastle Emlyn

This is the first Mass of Sunday and coming to this Mass fulfils Sunday

obligation.  Hymns are sung and on feast days a Mass setting is also usually

Sung. The Mass is celebrated in English, in the newer form of the Roman rite,

with the priest facing the people.   Refreshments are available in the hall

following Mass

10.30am Sunday Our Lady of the Taper Cardigan

This is the Parish Sung Mass with organ. Hymns and a Mass setting are always

sung and there is choir who practise before Mass.  A children’s liturgy group

takes place and older children are welcome to become servers. Once a month,

the children participate more fully and take part in the readings and bidding

prayers.  The Mass is celebrated in English, and on the 3rd Sunday is a

bilingual celebration in Welsh/English. The Mass is in the newer from of the

Roman rite with the priest facing the people. Refreshments  and a piety stall

are available in the hall following Mass

Welsh Medium

This Mass is celebrated in the Welsh Language at certain times during the year, for example on St. David’s Day, or  during thOn  Cylch Catholig Pilgrimage.

On other Sundays, readings , bidding prayers and Mass parts in the Welsh medium are frequently used.

Latin Mass Extraordinary Form

The celebration of the Mass in Latin, in the traditional Roman rite, is a part

of the rich liturgical life of the parish.  The Mass is celebrated with the

priest facing eastwards, and the 1962 missal is used.  More detailed information

is offered on the Latin Mass page.

Syro Malabar Rite

We are delighted to welcome a visiting Priest to the parish on the third Sunday of the month to celebrate Mass in the Syro Malabar rite.

 Rosary

As the National Shrine of Wales to Our Lady, the rosary is a special part of

parish liturgy . During the Marian months of May and October, the rosary is

said before ALL Masses. On days of pilgrimage, a Rosary Procession is usually

included as part of the day’s celebration.  The rosary is said routinely on a

Saturday morning 10.15am  before Mass.

Pilgrimage Days

Many groups come to the Shrine for a day of pilgrimage. The liturgy for these

events is detailed on the weekly Mass Times page. A pilgrimage programme usually consists of: confession, a rosary pilgrimage, Holy Mass and Benediction.

All are welcome to participate in pilgrimage celebrations whether they are part of the visiting  group or not, and most especially, the National

Pilgrimage which takes place on Sunday May 2nd 2010.

Holydays of Obligation and Feast Days

There are usually various forms of liturgy offered on these days; these

include Corpus Christi and May processions, 40 hours devotion, Day of

Recollection for Immaculate Conception, Benediction and Vespers. Please

See weekly Mass Times page for details.
